Our purpose is to facilitate multicultural, intergenerational relationships and understanding within communities through food and gardening.
Our mission is to increase educational opportunities and access to healthy sustainable food; to support positive mental health by providing public green spaces in our neighbourhoods; and to provide residents with the opportunity to reclaim a sense of food security and control over their health.
Students enrolled in grade 8 at our local schools participate in the IncrEdible School Nutrition Program. In the fall and spring students from Hillcrest PS and Kent PS visit the gardens to help prepare the beds for winter and plant the public beds while learning about how food is grown. They identify seeds and seedlings, learn about compost and plant vegetable, herb and fruit seedlings as well as flowers. They’re encouraged to return to the gardens throughout the summer to see the fruits of their efforts and to pick veggies as they ripen.
The Campbellford Community Gardens are an initiative of IncrEdible Trent Hills. We operate two community gardens in Campbellford; the Doxsee Ave. Garden and the Simpson St. Garden.
The Doxsee Ave Garden is privately owned land. It is generously loaned to IncrEdible Trent Hills for the use of a community garden on a year to year basis.
The Simpson St. Garden is owned by the Municipality of Trent Hills which kindly permits IncrEdible Trent Hills to manage the grounds as community gardens. This land is adjacent to Trout Creek, which offers significant educational opportunities for the observation of native flora and fauna.
